Doug MacLaren, Owner and licensed Acupuncturist
Doug MacLaren first became interested in Buddhism and Asian religions when he read Herman Hesse’s Siddhartha his senior year at Archbishop Williams High School. After earning a degree in History with an Asian Studies concentration at the College of the Holy Cross, Doug pursued his interest to teach English in Japan. Nine years later, he’d worked in elementary and junior high schools, co-owned an English conversation school, and started receiving acupuncture treatments. These experiences planted the seeds of his calling as a healer and teacher.
Doug returned to the US, completed foundational studies at the New York College of Chiropractic in Seneca Falls, and earned the Master of Acupuncture degree at New England School of Acupuncture in Watertown (now in Worcester). After internships at medical facilities in Boston, Doug and his wife Zoe, a yoga teacher specializing in trauma recovery, purchased a local acupuncture clinic in Berea, Kentucky, where they spent 5 years tripling the business in size and becoming a healing resource to the community.
After the birth of their son, they sold the practice and moved back to New England to be closer to family. Doug spent a year in Portland, Maine, honing an expertise in fertility acupuncture, and in 2014, they finally returned home to Massachusetts to open MacLaren Transformative Acupuncture. Doug is pleased to bring his gentle brand of transformative healing to the South Shore communities where he grew up.

Risette Zoe MacLaren, L.Y.F.E. coach, Meditation Instructor
Zoe is a spiritual creative who is interested in just about everything! She is loving and inspired and 100% behind you and your efforts to make your mark in the world. In fact, she knows you are already making it, whether you are aware of it or not. The process of living your fullest expression (L.Y.F.E.) is reductive, not additive — that means, everything you need to heal and live the life you desire is already part of you. You just need to peel back the layers of conditioning and doubt that obscure it.
Zoe’s inspirational workshops, meditation, yoga, and spiritual coaching are all designed to support you in uncovering the truth of who you are, and the feeling of freedom and joy that is your birth right!
In addition to her practice certifications, Zoe also holds a master’s degree in public health research and serves as Director of Development for The TIMBo Collective, a Boston nonprofit dedicated to empowering women globally to recover from trauma and heal their communities. But her greatest delight is spending time with her husband and son, both of whom make her a better version of herself every day.
